Building Community and Creating Connections: The Hidden Heart of Our Host Orientation!

In July, we held our first virtual Host Family Orientation for the 2024-2025 school year, and it was an engaging and informative evening for everyone involved. The success of this event is a testament to the power of community and the profound connections that can be forged when we come together with open hearts and minds.

The session covered essential topics such as Support & Resources, Host Responsibilities, Stipend Payments, Culture, Mental Health, and Cambridge Network Programs. Our host parents were actively engaged, asking insightful questions about meal ideas, cultural differences, and ways to make their homes more welcoming for students. This active participation and curiosity from our hosts demonstrated their dedication and enthusiasm for creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our students.

In addition to discussing cultural differences, we explored the topic of normal teen behavior, offering tips that can be helpful across cultural boundaries for a successful hosting experience. Experienced hosts generously shared their insights and tips, providing valuable advice to those new to hosting. This sharing of knowledge and experiences fostered a strong sense of community, with everyone eager to learn and support each other.

Hosts were also excited to learn about our private community Facebook group, which provides a platform for further connection and resource sharing. This group allows hosts to continue building relationships, seek advice, and share experiences long after the orientation has ended. Additionally, hosts received practical tools, including a host orientation guide and a culture shock infographic, to help them navigate the hosting experience.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that we will be holding three more orientation sessions in August. We encourage all hosts to attend these sessions for additional learning and community building. These orientations are not just a requirement but an opportunity to be part of a vibrant and supportive community. By being vulnerable, speaking up, and engaging with others, hosts can find the experience to be incredibly rewarding and enriching.

We are grateful for the commitment and enthusiasm of our hosts, and we look forward to continuing to build a strong, connected community together. Let’s make this hosting year our best one yet!
