This past month, ARD Stephen Glaspie had the joy of catching up with Jenny Phung, a proud alumna of Montini Catholic High School’s Class of 2020. Jenny recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and her former host mom was there to cheer her on at graduation—a full-circle moment for them both.
Jenny’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She’s now preparing to travel to Singapore this fall to receive the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for one of her innovative designs. Reflecting on her path, Jenny credits her host mom not only for helping her navigate the challenges of adapting to a new country during the COVID era, but also for introducing her to sewing—an essential skill that helped spark and shape her passion for fashion design.
Jenny’s story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact a caring host family can have in the life of an international student—and how small moments can lead to incredible futures.
