As of this past election cycle, Twenty-six states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing personal marijuana use in some form. In recent years, attitudes around the use of marijuana has shifted, especially among teenagers. At gphomestay, we want to reiterate that while the use these products by adults may now be legal in certain areas, we believe that our international students can live their best lives by staying free of marijuana and other substances including alcohol and tobacco.
Gphomestay has a strict policy prohibiting drug misuse, whether legal or illegal. Students attending school in the U.S. through gphomestay, regardless of age, will not be permitted to use tobacco, marijuana or alcohol products whether on campus or at home. Students found to be in violation of these policies will be subject to disciplinary action up to suspension or expulsion. Hosts may review our drug and alcohol policies in our Host Family Handbook, which can be viewed via the Host Family Portal.
Gphomestay strives to be a part of the Partnership for Drug Free Kids. We encourage you to have a conversation with your international student about your expectations regarding drugs and alcohol. Here is some introductory information on how to talk to you international student about drug use. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you think your international student is experimenting with drugs or alcohol, please contact your Support Services Coordinator.
