Celebrate Pepero Day with Your Student!

Every year on November 11, South Korea celebrates Pepero Day—a sweet and fun tradition that’s all about showing appreciation and friendship! On this day, friends, classmates, and loved ones exchange Pepero, thin chocolate-covered cookie sticks (similar to Pocky in the U.S.), as a way to say “I care about you.”

The date 11/11 looks just like four Pepero sticks in a row, making it the perfect day for this playful celebration. In South Korea, stores are filled with colorful Pepero gift boxes and festive displays, and people of all ages join in the fun by sharing treats with others.

If your student is from South Korea, Pepero Day can be a meaningful holiday that reminds them of home. Joining in the celebration is a great way to show your support and curiosity about their culture—plus, who doesn’t love an excuse for chocolate?

Here are a few fun ways to celebrate together:

  • Pick up a box of Pepero at an Asian market or grocery store to share.
  • Surprise your student with a small gift or handwritten note of encouragement.
  • Make your own Pepero at home by dipping cookie sticks in melted chocolate and decorating with sprinkles or nuts.
  • Ask your student how they usually celebrate in South Korea—it’s a great conversation starter!

Small gestures like this can help your student feel more connected, appreciated, and at home—while giving your family a chance to experience a sweet piece of Korean culture together.
