Katherine A Knight – Student Development Manager

When did you start working at Cambridge Network?
I started working at Cambridge Network on June 5th, 2015

Where have you traveled to outside of the United States?
I lived in Japan for 7 years and Canada for 1 year

What other languages do you speak?
I do not speak any other languages fluently. I can understand some Japanese when spoken.

Please describe a time when you experienced culture shock in a funny way.
When I was a young child I lived in Japan and I was given a lot of new foods that I did not like. As I slipped the food under the table to our dog it appeared I ate all on my plate. But one day my mother was cleaning under the dog bed. She found a bunch of old food items that I did not like buried under the dog bed. So now when my students do not like a certain food I never make them eat it!

What’s something about American culture that you have found others outside of America find weird?
I will be traveling to China this summer and one of my students is telling all the things I can and cannot do. One suggestion was not to laugh so much. He said people in China will think I am crazy.

If you could travel back in time to any point in history, when and where would it be?
If I could travel back in time I would travel I would go to July 17, 1955 to Anaheim, California. I would be there for the opening of the happiest place on Earth…..Disneyland! To experience the joy and fun of opening day would incredible!

What was your favorite food that you tried in another country?
My favorite food is teriyaki chicken. I ate a lot of it in Japan.

If you could physically transport yourself to any place in the world at this moment, where would you go?
If I could transport myself to anywhere in the world at this moment I would go to the climate change summit in Paris. So much is going on in this world that we can change if we all work together.

If you could be instantly fluent in one language that you currently do not speak, which would it be?
If I could be fluent in any language right now it would be Mandarin.

If you could eat one food in any quantity for the rest of your life with no ill effects whatsoever, what food would you choose?
One food I would chose to have if no ill effects would be chocolate! Who could refuse chocolate?

Why do you like working in international education?
I love working in international education because I believe our young people are our future. Understanding and supporting the students through their journey to become adults is truly a positive life experience.

What do you think is the greatest benefit of hosting a student?
Greatest benefit of hosting a student is getting to know them. Sharing our life with them along with them sharing their life with us.

What do you think is the biggest benefit of studying abroad?
The world is becoming more and more globalized. By studying abroad our students will be able to work more effectively in a global environment.

If you could only read one book for the rest of your life which book would it be?
If could read only one book for the rest of my life it would be the bible. So much can be learned through stories in the bible that can help us to learn and grow.
